MAE PEREZ

Real LIFE Foundation
Executive Director
Since 2017

As Christians, we believe we are called to help those in need, to be the hands and feet of Jesus by being His instruments on earth. Real LIFE Foundation was born as a response to that call of God.

At Real LIFE, we serve bright and deserving underprivileged youth by providing them with educational assistance, so that as we empower them, they, in turn, can be a blessing to their families and communities.

More than just providing education, we focus on character formation, instilling in them the values of leadership, integrity, faith, and excellence, to help our scholars rise to become true servant leaders.

Although we may not see in our lifetime our vision of a totally transformed nation where each Filipino has access to quality education, we press on toward this goal: one changed life at a time.

EDUCATIONAL
ASSISTANCE

We believe that education is the most effective way to empower individuals to lift themselves out of poverty. The financial aid we give to our scholars serves this purpose. On top of covering for their tuition and miscellaneous fees, we also provide for the following:

  • School-related expenses - With their school supplies, uniforms, and other school-related expenses provided for, our scholars are able to comply with school requirements and excellently accomplish their projects.

  • Weekly allowances - Our scholars no longer need to worry about where to get funds for transportation and meals.

  • Freedom to choose their course strand or program - Giving our senior high school and college scholars this choice helps them grow in their strengths.

We believe that good character is equally important as education in preparing students for life. This is the reason why all our scholars are coached in the areas of leadership, integrity, faith, and excellence through LIFE groups.

CHARACTER
FORMATION

We believe that good character is equally important as education in preparing students for life.

  • LIFE Groups - All Real LIFE scholars are plugged into LIFE Groups where they learn about leadership, integrity, faith, and excellence. This is also where they can share their personal concerns and receive much needed guidance and encouragement from their coaches.

  • Scholar Updates - During these monthly updates, the scholars are able to share their struggles and wins with one another, building a community they know they can turn to for support.

LEADERSHIP
DEVELOPMENT

We believe in investing in students because they are the future leaders of the nation. Our goal is not only to produce graduates but also to contribute to empowering a generation of future leaders who will make an impact in the different sectors of society.

  • Special workshops - Both the Real LIFE national office and local centers regularly hold workshops for practical life skills and well-being. These arm the scholars with competence and knowledge to get ahead in life.

  • National Scholars’ Conference - The National Scholars’ Conference is an annual event held specifically for graduating college scholars to prepare them for the working world.

HISTORY

2003

In 2003, practicing physician and then senior pastor of Victory Pasig Joey Castro started the LIFE Scholarships—an educational assistance program for high school and university students who lacked the financial capability to complete their education. Out of their own pockets, he and his wife, Tess, paid for the tuition and books of the students while their friends, joining their humble advocacy, shouldered the students’ weekly allowance.

2007

The success of these scholarships in the years that followed led to an increased demand for funding and programs. As such, the LIFE Scholarships Program was formally incorporated as the Real LIFE Foundation, Inc. in March 2007.

2009

We opened our first provincial centers in Lipa, Batangas, and Bacolod, Negros Occidental. Since then, we have opened more centers in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

2011

The first National Scholars' Conference (NSC) was held in October 2011 for 160 scholars. Since then, the NSC has become an annual event to prepare graduating scholars for life after college by equipping them in the areas of leadership, integrity, faith, and excellence (LIFE).

2015

We tied up with Victory locations to localize the scholarship program. Thanks to this partnership, we now have Real LIFE teams in more than 50 locations across the Philippines.

We also partnered with Every Nation Campus Philippines for our character formation program. They help us coach all our scholars in the areas of leadership, integrity, faith, and excellence through LIFE groups that meet weekly.

2019

We became an official partner of the Department of Education, enabling us to help more students know about our scholarship program.

2022

Real LIFE becomes present in all regions of the Philippines
